ORLANDO, FLA. (November 1, 2007) - Tradewinds show home, the latest in a series of forward-thinking show homes produced by BUILDER magazine in conjunction with the annual International Builders' Show, is nearing completion on a waterfront lot in Orlando's Baldwin Park, a new urban redevelopment community built on the site of a former U.S. Navy Training Center. The 2008 show home provides home builders, design professionals, and consumers with a wealth of sustainable design ideas for housing's present and future.

To meet the increasing demands to reduce environmental footprint, Tradewinds show home incorporates a variety of sustainable design features with the latest high-performance products and interactive control systems. For instance, high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment, complete with the latest air-quality system, serve a network of sealed, insulated ducts in semi- conditioned space to reduce thermal transfer. Managed by touch-screen electronic controls, the system makes the most efficient use of energy resources while creating a comfortable and healthy indoor environment.

Other sustainable design products in the show home include Energy Star-qualified appliances and windows, engineered wood flooring, a trio of sealed combustion direct-vent fireplaces, a central vacuum system that removes more than 99 percent of allergens, motorized window shading, on-demand tankless water heaters, low-VOC-content cabinets, flooring and coatings, and an extensive use of day lighting and passive heating and cooling that offset mechanical systems. "This is a comprehensive approach to housing performance that sets a pretty high bar for the industry," says Tradewinds show home builder Charlie Clayton, president of Charles Clayton Construction, one of Orlando's premier custom builders. "The buyers of this house may not care so much about saving money on their energy bill, but they value comfort, healthy indoor air, and consistent performance."

To fully enable that capability - now and in the future - Tradewinds show home features an extensive, state-of-the-art structured wiring system feeding a multitude of consumer electronics, controls, and management systems to create a truly customized living environment that can easily adjust to lifestyle changes over time. easily adjust to lifestyle changes over time.

While the show home is a showcase for the latest building product applications and sustainable design ideas, Tradewinds show home also takes a bold step in exemplifying transitional design and floor planning. "This house exemplifies that concept and gives builders and design professionals a template for their own projects," says show home architect Geoffrey Mouen.

Combining familiar forms and proven materials, such as timber columns for the lake view porch, metal roofing, and stucco siding, Mouen fashioned classic design elements into the contemporary, 7,316-square foot show home. The split-level floor plan design is easy to navigate, provides long and interesting sightlines, and affords a wealth of modern lifestyle needs including multiple (and enviable) entertainment, work-at-home, and relaxation spaces.

Tradewinds show home will debut at the 2008 International Builders' Show and will be open for free guided tour beginning February 13 for IBS attendees and media, with free, round-trip shuttle service from the convention center. ORLANDO, FLA. (November 1, 2007) - Tradewinds show home, the latest in a series of forward-thinking show homes produced by BUILDER magazine in conjunction with the annual International Builders' Show, provides home builders, design professionals, and consumers with a wealth of design ideas for housing's present and future.

Nearing completion on a lakeside lot in Orlando's Baldwin Park urban redevelopment community, Tradewinds show home is truly a "high-performance home for the ages" with its timeless architectural character, modern conveniences, and respect for the environment. "This show home crystallizes the combination of transitional design and lifestyle needs that builders will need to follow to remain competitive and relevant to potential buyers," says Boyce Thompson, editorial director of BUILDER magazine, co-producer of the annual show home program with HOME magazine since 1998. "Builders will find new design and product ideas around every corner that they can apply to their projects."

Built by Charles Clayton Construction, one of Orlando's premier custom builders, the 7,316square foot show home is the first house within a new section of waterfront lots at Baldwin Park. The show home design, from renowned architect Geoffrey Mouen of nearby Celebration, Fla., updates traditional design elements such as an interior courtyard, timber-columned lake view porch, and rooftop cupola to bring a comfortable classicism to the show home's contemporary feel and floor plan. An interior design scheme by Orlando's Brown & Deddens Design Studio combines comfort and clean lines to reinforce Mouen's vision, while Wilson Technologies served as the systems integrator for the show home's extensive use of technology and consumer electronics.

The Tradewinds show home is sponsored by 25 of the world's leading product manufacturers, supplying everything from the dramatic Florida Cypress entry door system and accordion-fold patio doors to the extensive and creative use of ceramic tile in the bathrooms and appliances for both the main and outdoor kitchen. "This is an opportunity for suppliers to showcase their progressive-thinking approach to the housing market," says Warren Nesbitt, group publisher of BUILDER magazine. "Our sponsors wholly support the concepts of environmental responsibility and lifestyle convenience showcased in this show home." BUILDER magazine. "Our sponsors wholly support the concepts of environmental responsibility and lifestyle convenience showcased in this show home."

The show home's H-shaped, split-level floor plan is decidedly contemporary design, wrapping an interior pool courtyard that is accessible from several rooms. The long, well-appointed kitchen extends the bulk of the show home's long front elevation; a master suite across the courtyard also occupies the main living level, along with a comfortable oasis at the end of the main hall. Down a half-level and bridged by the alley-accessed, three-car garage, a pair of guest suites accommodate occasional guests or adult children; up a half-level is another guest suite and a home office separated by a home theater/entertainment room.

Tradewinds show home will debut at the 2008 International Builders' Show and will be open for free guided tour beginning February 13 for IBS attendees and media, with free, round-trip shuttle service from the convention center.
